The Kavian Petrochemical Complex will come on stream in two weeks, the Kavian Petrochemical Company's managing director said on Tuesday.
The complex aims at increasing Iran's annual ethylene production capacity by two million tons, the IRNA News Agency quoted Ali Beyraghi as saying.
The complex has two units and in the first phase one will start production at half capacity.
Earlier this month, Iran's oil minister Rostam Qasemi said Iran's installed petrochemical production capacity will reach 100 million tons by the end of the fifth five-year economic development plan (2015).
The country's installed petrochemical output capacity is currently about 55 million tons.
The managing director of the National Petrochemical Company of Iran Abdolhossein Bayat said in August that petrochemical exports from Iran to Asian markets have been rising due to an increasing demand as well as lower transportation costs compared to other destinations.
Bayat said that despite global sanctions, petrochemical exports to Asian markets have increased by 30 per cent in weight and 10 per cent in value in the current year.
He added that the national petrochemical output is projected to be boosted by 5-5.5 million by the end of the current year.
Based on the reports, 17 Mehre Mandegar projects are underway in the petrochemical sector of which six projects have made progress between 90 to 99 per cent, while the other 11 projects' progress stand at 50 to 80 per cent.
