Iran is prepared to boost its annual trade with neighboring Turkey up to $30 billion, Iranian Vice President Ali Saeedlou said.
Saeedlou made the remarks after meeting with Turkish Development Minister Cevdet Yilmaz in Turkey, the IRIB News Agency reported.
Yilmaz said his country is making efforts to finalize a preferential trade agreement with Iran as soon as possible, IRNA reported.
During a meeting with Iranian economic, political and cultural officials in Turkey, he said Turkey wants free trade and investment with Iran.
He estimated bilateral trade during the first 9 months of 2012 at around $18 billion, adding that the two sides plan to reach the value to $30 billion annually.
On June 1, delegations from Iran and Turkey made progress in finalizing the details of a preferential trade agreement between the two countries.
The Iranian delegation at the talks was led by Deputy Commerce Minister for Economic Affairs Hamid Safdel.
The discussions covered a list of agricultural and industrial goods that the two countries want to import from each other.
Ankara will continue the talks in Tehran in the near future. Then, the final agreement and a list of goods will be reconsidered for Turkish and Iranian Ministers of Economy and Industry to sign it.
