Iran's Kish Airport will become a regional hub connecting east and west of Asia.

Moheb Khodaei, director of Kish Free Zone Organization for tourism said the decision has been made in order to promote tourism and attract foreign tourists, Iran's IRIB reported on September 13.

Tourists who are willing to travel to India, Malaysia, Syria, Iraq, or Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman littoral states can create their route via Kish Airport, he added.

Indian Muslims who want to visit holy sites in Iraq can use Kish Airport, because their costs will be lower and can even enjoy seeing beautiful tourist spots on Kish Island, the official further said.

Masoud Soltanifar, director of Iran's Cultural Heritage Tourism and Handicrafts Organization, said in May that Iran is expected to reach over $30 billion annual income in the calendar year 1404 (2025) by hosting more than 20 million tourists.

Facilities in issuing visa, domestic and foreign transportation and establishing offices to attract foreign tourists are amongst the plans to boost the industry, he added.

Half of foreign tourists in Iran are Muslims who plan to visit holy shrines, he noted.
