Product exports via Mehran customs of Ilam province in western Iran increased by 24 percent in terms of weight in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 20, 2020) compared to the year before last (from March 21, 2018 through March 21, 2019), said Ilam Customs' Director General Ruhollah Gholami, Trend reports referring to Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).
According to Gholami, about 2.07 million tons of products worth $1.18 billion were exported last year.
Gholami added that the number of trucks carrying Iranian export and transit products exceeded 107,000, which is an increase of 27 percent compared to the preceding year.
The official said that more than 6.37 million people crossed the Mehran border last Iranian year and this is an increase by 26 percent compared to the year before last.
Gholami said that the Mehran border customs remained closed for 20 days due to a number of problems, including the coronavirus outbreak in February-March this year.
The customs are still closed and talks are underway with the Iraqi side to reopen the border customs, he added.
