BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 30. In November 2023, the STAR oil refinery of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye experienced a significant surge in aviation fuel production, doubling its output compared to the same month in 2022, Trend reports.
According to Türkiye's Energy Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the refinery produced 64,764 tons of aviation fuel in November 2023, marking a substantial increase from the 30,591 tons produced in November 2022.
During the period of reduced demand for aviation fuel due to COVID-19-related restrictions, STAR swiftly adapted its production capacity, originally designed for 1.6 million tons of aviation fuel, to focus on diesel fuel production. Upon the lifting of restrictions, the refinery resumed aviation fuel production to meet rising demand.
The STAR plant, launched in October 2018 at a cost of $6.3 billion, with $3.3 billion financed through borrowing, boasts an annual processing capacity of 10 million tons. It can process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
