BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 15. Diesel fuel production at the Star Oil Refinery, operated by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Türkiye, showed significant fluctuations throughout 2024, Trend reports with reference to the data from Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

The highest diesel fuel production was recorded in December (652,797 tons), marking a 42.3% increase compared to November (569,461 tons). The lowest output was in September (46,397 tons), representing a 92.9% decline from the peak in December.
From March to April, production decreased by 8.8%. A sharp decline was observed between August and September, with production plummeting by 86.2%. From October to November, production rebounded significantly, surging by 997.5%.
The refinery saw a steady output from January to March, followed by a gradual decline from April to August. The most drastic drop occurred in September and October, possibly due to maintenance or operational adjustments. Production recovered strongly in November and peaked in December, suggesting resumed full-scale operations.
STAR Refinery commenced operations on October 19, 2018. It ensures the integration of refining and petrochemicals and represents the largest single-location real sector investment in Türkiye.
Since late 2024, the refinery's crude oil processing capacity has reached 13 million tons per year. In 2023, the utilization rate of production capacity stood at 117.1 percent. STAR Refinery produces various petroleum products, including diesel, naphtha, aviation fuel, and LPG, meeting approximately 18 percent of Türkiye’s demand for refined petroleum products in 2023. The refinery’s annual naphtha production almost fully meets Petkim’s raw material needs.
