The National Bank of Kazakhstan pays special attention to ensuring stability in the domestic foreign exchange market, Yerbolat Dosayev, chairman of the bank, said, Trend reports via Kazinform.
Dosayev made the remark during a meeting between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the country's business representatives
“Given the accumulated demand formed due to the lack of trading and the limited supply of foreign currency under the state of emergency, the National Bank carried out foreign exchange interventions in the amount of $240 million in the first two days of the resumption of foreign exchange trading, thus ensuring the prevention of risks for financial stability and speculative pressure on the tenge,” he noted.
The chairman added that the National Bank of Kazakhstan will ensure the balance of the foreign exchange market until the full restoration of confidence in the tenge, both on the part of internal and external market participants.
“At the same time, the National Bank remains committed to the policy of free exchange rate formation, determined on the basis of market demand and supply in accordance with the Monetary Policy Strategy until 2030,” Dosayev said.
