Kazakhstan plans to implement number of projects in metallurgical industry

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 30. Kazakhstan plans to implement 21 projects in the metallurgical industry in 2024, said Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapaev during a government meeting, Trend reports.

"This year, 21 projects are planned to be implemented in the metallurgical industry. The total investment in projects will be 464.2 billion tenge (about $1.04 billion). Thanks to the implementation of these projects, over 4,700 jobs will be created. Among them are the Kazakh plant for the production of steel pipes "TEMPO" in the Karaganda region and a project to modernize the production of aluminum packaging "QazAlPack" in Shymkent city," he said.

According to the minister, from January through April 2024, production in the metallurgical industry increased by 5.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

"1 million tons of cast iron, 1.3 million tons of steel, 834,000 tons of flat products, 87,400 tons of aluminum, 89,000 tons of zinc, and 159,800 tons of copper were produced," Sharlapaev said.

Meanwhile, the volume of industrial production in Kazakhstan amounted to 46.4 trillion tenge (about $102.5 billion) from January through December 2023. Compared to 2022, production increased by 4.3 percent.

Thus, production volume in the mining and quarrying industry amounted to 21.7 trillion tenge (about $47.9 billion), which is 4.6 percent more than in 2022. In addition, production in this area accounted for 46.9 percent of total industrial production.

At the same time, production in the manufacturing industry increased by 4.1 percent compared to 2022 and amounted to 21.6 trillion tenge (about $47.7 billion). The manufacturing industry, in turn, covered 46.6 percent of total industrial production.
