BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 2. Kyrgyzstan will not experience widespread power outages this winter, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev announced at a press conference, Trend reports.
Ibraev stated that while there will be no general electricity restrictions, there may be temporary measures if power consumption exceeds capacity.
"In such cases, adjustments will be made, such as switching consumers to different transformers or substations," he said.
He explained that these adjustments typically take 1 to 1.5 hours, during which electricians will transfer consumers to alternate substations to ensure continuous power supply.
The minister noted that preparations for the autumn-winter season 2024–2025 are underway.
"Repair and restoration work is being conducted at all hydropower stations, district power network enterprises, and heating plants across the country," he said.
Additionally, repairs are ongoing at the Bishkek thermal power plant (TPP). Currently, a major overhaul is being carried out on a hydroelectric unit previously repaired by ТВЕА specialists. A different Chinese company is now handling the repair, with about 300 workers, including 68 engineers, on site. These repairs are expected to be completed before the start of the heating season, according to Ibraev.
Kyrgyzstan generated and imported 9.08 billion kWh of electricity from January through June 2024. A total of 6.2 billion kWh were produced by the country’s hydropower stations, while 870 million kWh came from thermal power plants. The volume of electricity imports was 2.02 billion kWh.
