The head of the Algerian security service DGSN, Ali Tounsi, was murdered on Thursday, Algerian television reports said.
According to the report, Tounsi was killed in his Algiers office by an auxilliary police officer, DPA reported. Unofficial sources said the alleged killer then took his own life.
The online edition of the daily Le Matin reported that police and army units have cordoned off the city.
