A 21-month old toddler was found alive Tuesday after being lost in forest for over four days in northern Brazil's Amazon rainforest region, Xinhua reported.

The police said the girl, Ana Clara Abranches, fell into a hole. She was found asleep some 400 meters away from the place where she disappeared on the morning of Jan. 1.

According to the Ariquemes' Childen's Hospital, where she was being treated, Ana Clara was dehydrated and lost three kg in the past four days. Apart from some minor injuries, such as cuts and scrapes from the fall and insect bites, her health was considered good.

Ana Clara's family was celebrating the New Year in a nearby ranch when she disappeared. Over 20 people participated in the search for the girl, including policemen, firemen and civilians.

Officers from the local Military Police's Special Operations Division joined the search group and finally found the child Tuesday.

Police chief Cezar Pizzano, who led the search, said that "we always believed she was still alive."
