U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on Afghan President Hamid Karzai and exchanged views on matters pertaining mutual interests including the upcoming elections, said a press release issued by the Presidential Palace on Sunday.
"In the telephone conversation held Saturday evening, the two sides exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and the upcoming elections in this country," the press release added.
It did not give more details.
President Karzai, in an order issued Saturday, asked the Election Commission to hold Presidential poll in April instead of Aug. 20 set for the event.
The Election Commission last month postponed the elections to Aug. 20, citing security problems and bad weather, a decision supported by both the U.S. and the United Nations.
President Karzai's five-year term expires on May 21 and as per the constitution the presidential elections should be held 30 to 60 days before the term of president expires.
