Ex-commander of the Revolution Guards of Iran Mohsen Rezai was officially registered for participation in the upcoming presidential elections. Rezai was registered in the Iranian Internal Ministry.
"I put forward my candidacy for the elections to stop the economic crisis in the country, because there is huge demand in changes in the economic sphere," the Iranian news agency Mehr quoted Rezai as saying. In achieving this goal the coalition government will play a significant role," he said.
"We are delivering promises", added Rezai.
Rezai is the first known political figures in Iran, who has been registered for the elections.
A member of the Advisory Council of Iran Mohsen Rezai is the first candidate from the Conservative camp, who has officially announced about participation in the presidential election. So far Chairman of the National Confidence Party, ex-Speaker Mehdi Karroubi and ex-Prime Minister Mousavi Mirhuseyn have nominated their candidatures from the camp of Reformist. The presidential elections will be held in Iran on June 12.
The official registration of presidential candidates started on May 5. The registration process will last to May 9, the Mehr reported. The registration of candidates will be held daily at 08:00-16:00.
Presidential elections in Iran are held every four years. Candidates may participate in the electoral process after the approval of the Supervisory Board. A person elected as president, receives the status after the approval of the supreme spiritual leader. President is the second official after the supreme spiritual leader. President controls the entire executive department that determines external and internal policy.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has not yet nominated his candidature to the second term. Ahmadinejad was elected the president of Iran in summer 2005.
