At least 16 people were injured on Saturday when a suicide car bomb went off in Kandahar city, capital of Kandahar province, 450 km south of capital city of Kabul, police said, Xinhua reported.
"A suicide bomber, with intention of attacking police, rammed his explosive-laden car to the wall of third sub-district police station in Kandahar city at around 01:00 p.m. local time Saturday, injuring 16 people," General Abdul Raziq, provincial police chief told Xinhua.
A health official in Kandahar hospital on condition of anonymity told Xinhua that 20 injured people including 13 children were admitted to hospital from the incident with most of them in stable conditions.
Police has started the investigation and details will be released to media after that, Raziq added.
Security personnel have cordoned off the area in precautionary measures.
The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group announced to launch spring offensive from May 1 against Afghan and NATO-led troops stationed in Afghanistan.
This is the second bomb attack on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitar, the Muslims festival in Afghanistan.
Four civilians were killed and 21 other people including 15 security forces were injured when a suicide car bomb targeted a bank branch in Lashkar Gah, the capital of neighboring Helmand province, earlier Saturday.
