Juventus veteran Alessandro Del Piero needed eight stitches to treat a head wound he suffered Sunday during a Serie A game with Cesena, dpa reported.
Juventus reported on their web site that the 37-year-old striker was hit in his left temple in a clash with Marco Rossi.
He was stretchered off the pitch and received the suture from a doctor of the club's medical staff before being taken to a Turin hospital for routine tests.
Del Piero, who has been fielded seldom lately, came on in the second half on a 0-0 score, but remained on the pitch only for eight minutes.
Juve then won the game 2-0 to remain at the top of the standings 13 games into the season.
