Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 Dec / Trend , corr. A.Huseynbala / Azerbaijani opposition party called on colleagues to admit their mistakes. Party said that it would think of participation in the huge coalition of opposition.
"We can participate in the new union of opposition, if the opposition will hold a meeting, admit its mistake and will objectively estimates the recent political developments in the country," Akif Shahbazov, the chairman of the Open Society Party (OSP) of Azerbaijan, aid to Trend .
Center for Opposition Cooperation includes bloc Azadlig (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Liberal Party, Citizens and Development Party), Musavat Party and For Azerbaijan public forum.
At early September, parties included in Azadlig bloc the (the Popular Front Party, the Liberal Party and the Citizen and Development), the Musavat Party and the Public Forum 'For Azerbaijan' signed a joint statement on recognition of the presidential elections to be held on 15 October as illegitimate. Government to be formed after the presidential elections is announced illegitimate in the statement.
Talks began after the election to create a large coalition of opposition. But mutual accusations hinder establishment of a larger coalition.
According to Shahbazov, the proposal that OSP made before the presidential election on the further cooperation of opposition has not been carried out. "Then we said that if the opposition would function separately, then its fate after the election would result in failure. Our forecast has already realized," Shahbazov said.
Parties, which have been functioning within different blocs and under pretext of joint struggle, gave up interests of population and one-party members for the interest of one person and a group, Shahbazob added.
"Taking into consideration this fact we take careful approach in participation in the new union of opposition. If an initiative for fruitful cooperation would be proposed, then we would join the talks," Shahbazov said.
OSP was founded in April 2007. Ex-speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament, Rasul Guliyev, was the leader of the opposition Open Society Party. From 2000 to the February of 2007 Guliyev was the chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA). Guliyev's supporters left DPA, held their congress and founded the Open Society Party. Party decided not to participate in the presidential election on 15 Oct 2008. Later, party supported the candidature from the governing New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev.
