The Kazakhstan Statistics Agency publicized a summary of country's social and economic development over January to February 2009.
Retail turnover for the period hit 164.3 billion tenge (excluding public catering turnover), a 2.2-percent drop from January to February 2008.
Nominal per capita incomes of the population hit 31,297 tenge in January. Growth of the nominal incomes hit 15 percent and real incomes - 5.8 percent, compared with the same month of 2008.
The number of unemployed hit 598,500 in February. The unemployment rate reached 7.1 percent of the economically active population. The number of persons registered as unemployed at employment agencies hit 66,500 at the end of last month, or 0.8 percent of the economically active population. Hidden unemployment hit 1.9 per cent of the economically active population.
Average nominal wages hit 61,378 tenge in January, a 12.7-percent rise from January 2008. The index of real wages hit 103.7 percent compared to the first month of last year.
Short-term economic indicators hit 96.3 percent in January to February compared to the same period last year. Calculation of the short-term economic indicator was implemented to ensure efficiency. It is based on change in release indices in basic industries: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, which constitute 67-68 percent of GDP.
The consumer price index hit 101.1 percent in February compared with December 2008. Food went up by 0.8 percent, non-food goods and services - by 1.4 percent. Prices on enterprises manufacturing industrial products decreased by 11.3 percent in February compared with December 2008.
In 2008, GDP hit 15,907 billion tenge at current prices. Real GDP growth hit 3.2 percent from the same period of 2007. Goods manufacturing added 45 percent and services - 52.5 percent to the GDP.
Foreign trade turnover hit $4.4 billion in January 2009 (excluding unorganized trade), a 41.6-percent drop from the same period of 2008.
Exports totalled $2.6 billion (a-50.5-percent drop) and imports $1.8 billion (a21.4-percent drop).
In Jan.-Feb., the volume of industrial output was 1.014 billion tenge in current prices, a-3.2-percent drop from the first two months of 2008. The processing industry saw a fall (88.6 percent) and energy generation and distribution of energy and gas and water (92.2 percent). The growth in mineral resource industry was 1.5 percent.
The agricultural output increased 4.7 percent and totalled 83.9 billion tenge. Volume of investments in the major capital totalled 373 billion tenge, a-9.7-percent drop from the same period of 2008.
The volume of turnover of goods was 50.5 billion tenge (including turnover of goods by non-transport organizations and businesses engaged in commercial transportation) and reduced 10.2 percent compared to the same period of 2008.
As of March 1, the number of registered legal entities increased 5.5 percent and reached 286, 334. The number of operating legal entities was181, 712; 167, 522 were small enterprises.
The number of small businesses in Kazakhstan increased 6.97 percent and reached 205,582.
As of Feb. 1, the income of the public budget was 206 billion tenge and expenditures 128 billion tenge. Income shrank 4.5 percent and expenditures upped 9.5 percent.
In Q3 2008, financial results of enterprises and organizations included income worth 1.536 billion tenge or a-6.5-percent rise from the same period of 2007. The profitability rate was 43.5 percent and share of businesses facing losses 36 percent.
Loans issued by the second-level banks for economy totaled 7.385 billion tenge, a-2-percent rise from previous year. Percentage of long-term loans hit 80.1 percent and credits in foreign currency 44.7 percent. Volume of deposits in the bank system totaled 5.256 billion tenge, a-34.1- percent rise from the same period of 2008. Population's deposits increased 3.2 percent and totaled 1.480 billion tenge.
