Poti Port expects record volume of freight turnover in 2012

A record volume of freight turnover is forecasted at the Poti Port in Georgia in 2012.

APM terminal has launched an investment plan, reporters were told on Friday by the company's managing director Joseph Crowley.

A subsidiary of the Danish conglomerate Maersk, APM terminal purchased an 80 per cent stake at the Poti port from the Arabic firm Rakia in 2011.
He said $50 million will be invested in the development and rehabilitation of the port's infrastructure in 2012.

Equipment, costing more than $13 million, has already been ordered and will be delivered to Poti in June 2012, Crowley said.

He also said, the number of containers has already increased by 35 per cent and as a result, a record growth of freight turnover of the port is expected in 2012.
