Artificially inflated commodity prices are unacceptable in Azerbaijan

The commodity prices artificially inflated by some entrepreneurs is unacceptable in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, Lieutenant General of the Customs Service Aydin Aliyev said at a meeting with businessmen in the committee, the committee said Feb. 28.

He said that the purpose of this meeting is to prevent such negative cases and to discuss additional efforts to resolve the problems.

While speaking at the meeting, First Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Lieutenant General of the Customs Service Safar Mehdiyev spoke about the comprehensive measures undertaken by the customs bodies in relation to minimizing the impact of the global financial crisis.

Mehdiyev also informed about the customs assessment benefits in connection with the import-export transactions.

The businessmen said that they will continue fulfilling the obligations responsibly to ensure the economic stability in the country.

The representatives of the State Customs Committee answered the entrepreneurs' questions.

The Head of the State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection under the Ministry of Economy and Industry Zahid Isayev also attended the meeting.

On February 21 the Central Bank of Azerbaijan set the manat rate versus the US dollar at 1.05 manat per dollar (compared to 0.7844 manat earlier). The rate decreased by 33.9 percent.

The official exchange rate of the US dollar versus the Azerbaijani manat was set at 1.0498 manat as of February 28.
