In 1H2018, Kazakhstan's chemical industry provided the country with 205,200 tons of nitrogen fertilizers, which is 1.9 percent more compared to the same period of 2017, Energyprom said in a message.
Production of phosphate fertilizers in the indicated period amounted to 78,800 tons, which is 5.1 percent more than the same period of 2017.
Kazakhstan's Mangistau, where the large chemical company KazAzot operates, produced 91.2 percent of nitrogen fertilizers (187,200 tons).
The Zhambyl region provided 90.8 percent of phosphate fertilizers (71,600 tons), 2.5 percent more than in 2017.
"Production of nitrogen fertilizers is growing each. Growth in 2017 was 7.1 percent compared to 2016, in 2015-2016 it was 10-12 percent. Production of phosphate fertilizers slightly lagged in 2016, but in 2017 it showed an annual growth rate of 78.6 percent," the report reads.
Even though nitrogen fertilizers still have to be imported to Kazakhstan, the demand for phosphate fertilizers is fully covered by Kazakh companies.
