BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.29

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

The positive growth trend will continue in the Azerbaijani non-oil sector until the end of this year, Ramil Huseyn, executive director of the Azerbaijani Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, told Trend.

"The real growth of the country's non-oil sector by more than three percent will be achieved by the end of the year," Huseyn added.

"The non-oil sector volume declined by 2.6 percent, while the volume in the oil and gas industry increased by 12.5 percent in 2020 under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said. "The volume in the non-oil sector grew by 2.1 percent while in the non-oil industry by 11.9 percent in the first quarter of this year."

"The continuation of the measures to reduce the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Azerbaijan and conducting a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 will also play a role in accelerating the recovery of economic activity," Huseyn said.

"The work being carried out within the Action Plan approved by the Cabinet of Ministers to reduce the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy contributes to the acceleration of the economic growth," he noted.

"The development of the construction sector, mining and petrochemical industries, digital economy, transport, trade and logistics, telecommunications, domestic tourism, agriculture and the processing industry have been outlined as the main priorities of the state economic policy for the medium term within this Action Plan," Huseyn said. "The development of these sectors will ensure the sustainability of the growth of the non-oil sector."
