Kazakhstan, Astana, August 25 / Trend K. Konyrova /
When the issue of transporting Kazakh hydrocarbon is solved, a decision on the construction of a refinery in Ceyhan will be made, Managing Director for Oil Refining and Marketing for 'KazMunaGaz' JSC, Daniyar Tiyesov, told Trend correspondent in Astana.
"When the issue on the transportation of Kazakh hydrocarbon is solved, a decision on further actions will be made, in particular, on the construction of a refinery in Ceyhan," Tiyesov said.
He said that Kazakhstan considered this project as one of the potential means of its development.
"We have not signed any binding documents. The company has studied the circumstances and the possible routes for Kazakh oil to create added value at its final stop and to protect it from any sharp fluctuations in the price of oil," the managing director said.
He said that in oil processing there is no better approach than owning a refinery, so as to escape critical circumstances through oil production and to smooth out the sharp fluctuations in price for raw material and so create added value.
Two years ago, KazMunayGas studied the possible construction of a refinery in the Turkish port of Ceyhan, together with Turkish, Indian and Italian companies, but the project was suspended in 2008.
