Middle East Petrol, which includes the Azersun Holding, plans to pump 8 million tons of oil and oil products via Azerbaijani terminals by late 2009, Azersun Holding President Abdolbari Goozal.
Earlier he stated that about 7.7 million tons of oil were pumped via Azerbaijan in 2008.
Middle East Petrol pumps most oil via an oil terminal in Dubendi. Goozal said from early 2009 the company pumped about 4 million tons of oil via the terminal.
"I think we will bring this figure up to 5 million tons by late 2009," Goozal said.
Azerbaijan also sports the Baku and Sangachal terminals which pump 8 million tons of oil by late 2009, he said.
Goozal said operations will launch oil transportation from the Kazakh Tengiz oil field via the Azerbaijani Black Sea terminal of Kulevi in Georgia. Negotiations are under way. The transportation of Tengiz oil via the terminal in Kulevi is likely to begin by late 2009.
The U.S company ChevronTexaco, which is developing the Tengiz Kazakh field, launched oil transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) in 2008. Tengiz oil will be transported via BTC and rail to the Georgian ports of Kulevi and Batumi under the terms of the agreement.
The total pumping capacity of the Kulevi terminal hits 10 million tons of oil cargo annually, including 2 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel and 4 million tons of fuel oil.
Dredging operations have ended at the terminal.
The terminal has already received a Afromaks tanker.
