The Russian Stroytranzgaz is laying a pipeline via the Amu Darya River. The pipeline will connect with a gas pipeline leading to China.

Turkmen gas supplies will be launched in December 2009.

The company recently completed the ground operations for constructing the Turkmen section of the 185-kilometer-pipeline connecting the Malay and Bagtyyarlyk fields. The pipeline runs from Bagtyyarlyk to China through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

"The contractors are pulling the pipeline underground at the most complicated section while constructing a passage via the river," the Neutralniy Turkmenistan newspaper reported today.

The paper reported plans to lay a pipeline with diameter of 1,420 millimeters and length of 1,740 meters through the Amu Daarya River for the first time in world practice. The weight of the underground pipeline is 1,351 tons. A trench was dug on the shore to provide for the successful implementation of the project. A drilling machine was also installed.

Three inclined horizontal wells have already been drilled under primary and backup pipelines and a cable connection at a depth of 20-25 meters.

A pipeline with a diameter of 219 millimeters has already been laid in one of the wells.
