Iraq intends to build new gas pipelines connecting the fields of the country with each other and with the ports within the energy infrastructure modernization, spokesman for the Iraqi Oil Ministry Asym Jihad told Trend today.
The first project envisages the construction of a gas pipeline with a diameter of 18 inches, transporting gas from Kirkuk to the port of Bija near Baghdad.
The project, which is estimated at $ 128 million, will be implemented by the Korean company Kogas. In the future, the company plans to modernize all the country's gas pipelines.
Moreover, Kogas will construct a gas pipeline with a diameter of 16 inches to transport liquefied gas. A 110 kilometer gas pipeline will be built within 22 months.
The second gas pipeline, which will connect the fields of the provinces Basra and Nasiriya will be built.
According to BP, the proven gas reserves in Iraq as of late 2011 amounted to 3.6 trillion cubic meters.
