Azerbaijan, Baku, July 5 / Trend E. Ismailov /

All efforts of the Azerigas Production Association (PA) of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is currently being directed towards the completion of gasification of the country, a source at SOCAR told Trend on Friday.

According to the plans, by the end of this year the level of gasification in Azerbaijan will reach 90 per cent. Currently, this indicator exceeds 85 per cent.

"Work on the gasification will continue and currently all efforts and money from Azerigas PA are being directed towards the completion of this process," the source said.

Regarding the project of reconstruction and modernisation of the gas distribution system of Baku and Absheron, the source said that specific works have not been carried out in this direction so far.

Even last year the German company E.ON SE prepared and submitted a feasibility study of the project to SOCAR which will undergo changes.

The project provides for decreasing gas loss to the minimum, expansion and reconstruction of the existing gas distribution system taking into account the population growth and sustainable development of the industry, as well as meeting the increased demand for natural gas in the future.

According to the source, the works in this project will become even more active after completion of the gasification process in the country, as well as after structural and administrative changes in the software.

Earlier the main gas pipelines in the territory of Azerbaijan were passed to submission of the Gas Export Department of SOCAR in accordance with the decision of SOCAR to improve the structure of Azerigaz PA.

Accordingly, all pipelines in areas of district importance remain in submission of Azerigas.

One of the main purposes of the transfer of gas pipeline systems from Azerigas is to improve the economic reasonability of gas sales in the country.
