Iraq intends to start the operations in new oil field Al-Garraf in Di-Kar province, Iraqi Oil Ministry spokesman Asym Jihad told Trend on Wednesday.
According to him, the production capacity of the field amounts to 35,000-50,000 barrels of oil per day, however, it is planned to increase it to 230,000 barrels per day by 2017.
In addition, oil production will begin within the second phase of Majnun field next month. Up to 175,000 barrels of oil will be produced in this field per day.
Iraq increased oil export to 79.8 million barrels in August 2013 compared to 78 million barrels in July and exported averagely 2.57 million barrels of oil per day.
Oil production in Iraq was on average 3.4 million barrels per day in August 2013, compared to 3.2 million barrels in July.
Earlier Jihad told Trend that Iraq increased its explored oil reserves by 10 billion barrels due to international tenders organised in the country for the exploration and development of new hydrocarbon fields.
Based on the research, it was found that the proven oil reserves in Iraq constitute 150 billion barrels, Jihad said.
The main oil fields in Iraq are in the south of the country. They are Rumaila, Zubair, Nahr Umr, Majnun and West Qurna. At least 80 per cent of the oil produced in Iraq is exported.
