Oil production by Iran from West Karoon oil fields, shared with Iraq, has increased fivefold over the past six years (the current government in Iran came to power in August 2013), said Touraj Dehghani, managing director of Iran’s Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), Trend reports referring to the company’s website.
Dehghani noted that in 2013, these fields produced less than 70,000 barrels of oil daily, adding that presently, 350,000 barrels of oil are extracted daily from the fields.
With the development and commissioning of the first phases of the North Azadegan, Yadavaran and North Yaran oil fields, which are part of West Karoon oil fields, the oil production reached 215,000 barrels daily in 2016, said the managing director.
Dehghani said that the development of South Azadegan oil field has also had an impact on the growth of oil production.
Commenting on the development of the Azar field, which is one of the oil fields jointly shared with Iraq, the managing director noted that until 2013, only one well was drilled at this field. In 2016, 30,000 barrels of oil started to be extracted from this field, Dehghani added.
The first phase of the field will be completed by the end of this Iranian year (March 21, 2020), with daily production reaching 65,000 barrels of oil, the director said.
Dehghani noted that 85 percent of the equipment used in the West Karoon oil fields was produced domestically.
