As part of the scope of the implementation of the project to lay a fibre optic link to the border with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan laid a trunk cable running a total length of 238 kilometres from Turkmenbashi to the Garabogaz border checkpoint, the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan stated on Monday.

According to the statement, the communication system has already been mounted and the measuring and control work have been completed.

The project was discussed at a government meeting. In particular, as reported by the media of the country, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said that fibre optic lines cross Turkmenistan from north to south and from west to east.

"As transnational transport corridors, modern telecommunication systems reduce long distances, bringing together people from different countries," he said

Berdymuhamedov noted that the development rate of the domestic telecommunications industry provides for achieving the level of developed countries, as well as the integration of the national telecommunications system into the global system.

Users will be offered information from regional, national and international sources. Government and commercial computer networks will provide customers with a surgical approach to the Internet to offer information and services, as well as online operations.

The Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan reported earlier that the optical fibre lines for communication with Kazakhstan in the area of the Bekdash settlement, as well as those connecting the country directly with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Serhetabat and Imamnazar checkpoints have already been prepared for attachment.
