Azerbaijan is considering the establishment of a joint venture with Austria for the production of fibre-optic communication lines, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Velizade told journalists on Wednesday.
According to him, at present this issue is being studied. Azerbaijan has big plans for the next few years. As the Deputy Minister said, the matter rests in the development of infrastructure for broadband Internet.
According to Velizade a greater expansion of the fibre-optic infrastructure is provided within the framework of broadband Internet development project.
"Currently, about 40 per cent of villages in Azerbaijan are already covered by a fibre-optic infrastructure. Complete coverage is provided in the framework of this project. This suggests that there is a demand for optical communications and it is possible to meet these demands through the deployment of production in the republic," Velizade said.
