BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 18. Iran's motorcycle manufacturing increased by 80 percent, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Secretary of the Motorcycle Industry Association of Iran Bahman Ziya Moqaddam told IRIB, Trend reports.
The secretary noted that a total of 325,000 motorcycles were manufactured in the country over 9 months, of which about 7 percent accounted for electric motorcycles.
Ziya Moqaddam added that the reasons for the increase in the manufacturing of motorcycles in Iran are the increase in the price of passenger cars in the country, the decrease in the purchasing power of citizens to buy a passenger car, the existence of traffic jams in the country's big cities, and the increase in the quality of motorcycles produced in the country.
“If the production continues like this, it is expected that 400,000 motorcycles will be manufactured by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2023),” he said.
The secretary also pointed out that mainly low-income citizens in the country use motorcycles.
According to Ziya Moqaddam, there are 56 plants engaged in motorcycle manufacturing in the country. Of this, 30 are fully operational, and the rest are partially operational. Currently, about 16,000 people work in the mentioned plants.
