Kazakhstan talks prospects for transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 16. Kazakhstan is considering the prospects for transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan, Almassadam Satkaliyev, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

"Currently, we are in talks on the possibilities of launching the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. The negotiations are going on in a constructive way. There is no information available yet on the volumes considered," he said.

Satkaliyev noted, that the sides also discuss the prospects for the construction of a gas pipeline from Russia through Kazakhstan to China.

"The preliminary route has been defined. The public will be informed on the results of negotiations in time," he said.

Earlier this year, ex-Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, and current Advisor to President Bolat Aqchulaqov, reported that Kazakhstan's QazaqGaz, a national gas operator, and Gazprom, a Russian energy company, are working out the initial feasibility study for the construction of a gas pipeline from Russia to China via Kazakhstan.

He did not reveal any details regarding the feasibility study and technical parameters of the potential pipeline. However, he noted that the construction of the said pipeline will enable Kazakhstan to carry out the gasification of the eastern regions of the country.
