BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, January 14. The construction of the Karakul Hydropower Plant (HPP) in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2026, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan.
Located on the Kara-Suu River near the city of Karakul, the HPP is owned by the Chakan HPP company. Construction work is currently underway, with the plant's planned capacity set to reach 18 MW.
Currently, ongoing work includes the production and installation of the pressure pipeline sections and the concreting of the first floor of the HPP building, including the foundation slab up to a height of 718.9 meters.
The project’s investor and general contractor is the Zhagalmai company. An investment agreement for the construction of the small HPP was signed on June 16, 2023, between Karakul HPP and Zhagalmai companies. The contract for the supply of key equipment, including the turbine and generator, was awarded to the renowned company GLOBAL Hydro Energy GmbH.
The technical and economic justification and development of the working project are being carried out by NK GROUP. To ensure the availability of construction materials (crushed stone and sand), a crushing and sorting facility with a capacity of 400 tons per hour has been established. Additionally, a concrete plant with a production capacity of 90 m³ per hour has been built.
