TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 10. Uzbekistan’s production in the leather industry increased to almost 3 trillion soums, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said, Trend reports.
He spoke at a meeting about how to leverage existing opportunities in the leather and silk industries and provide employment based on Saikhunabad local experience.
According to him, Uzbekistan’s Andijan and Fergana regions accounted for half of the output.
The country's Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya, and Khorezm provinces, which provide 40 percent of Uzbekistan's total leather industry, have not developed their processing.
Furthermore, ready-made products will account for only 30 percent of the leather industry's exports in 2023.
Meanwhile, another Turkish company, El Taban, launches an investment project in the leather and footwear industries, enabling Uzbekistan to produce a new generation of shoe soles.
Preliminary calculations estimate the project's cost at $2.1 million.
