TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 24. Uzbekistan's Common Republican Processing Centre (operator of the UzCard payment system) completed the initial issue of shares, Trend reports.
According to UzCard, the payment system was officially transformed from a Limited Liability Company (LLC) to a Joint Stock Company (JSC) in April 2024.
The transformation was made in accordance with the decree of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. According to the decree, requirements on the creation and implementation of activities of operators of payment systems and payment organizations exclusively in the form of joint stock companies will be introduced starting on July 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, during the first two months of 2024, Uzbekistan issued 4.06 million UzCard payment cards: 2 million in January and 2.06 million in February.
Data from the Uzbek Open Data Portal indicates that this number has increased by 260,000 payment cards, marking a 6.8 percent annual increase (3.8 million in January–February 2023).
At the same time, as per data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, the number of bank cards in circulation in Uzbekistan amounted to 47.1 million from January through February 2024.
