BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 9. Iran's East Azerbaijan Province has seen a significant 37 percent increase from April 11 through September 7, in the volume of guaranteed wheat purchases from farmers compared to the same period last year, Director of the East Azerbaijan branch of the State Trading Company of Iran, Ali Reza Shahidi, said in a press statement, Trend reports.
Shahidi stated that throughout this period, the province managed to acquire an impressive 590,000 tons of wheat from local farmers.
In addition, he mentioned that 67 locations around the province are now buying guaranteed wheat from farmers, and this process will last until September 23.
Iran’s 31 provinces collectively purchased approximately 11.9 million tons of wheat from April 11 through September 3, valued at around 2.08 quadrillion rials ($4.93 billion). This represents a 16 percent increase, or 1.62 million tons, compared to the same period last year.
The State Trading Company is guaranteeing the purchase of wheat at a rate of 175,000 to 180,000 rials per kilogram ($4.17 to $4.30) for the current Iranian year (March 20, 2024-March 20, 2025).
