Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 23 / Trend H. Hasanov /
A workshop on strengthening confidence and security was organized for Defense Ministry and Turkmen State Border Service employees in Ashgabat, OSCE Ashgabat reported today.
The 1999 Vienna Document entered into force on the basis of confidence and security talks in 2000. The document composes the phased implementation of effective actions on confidence and security, as well as disarmament achievement, to implement and extend the obligation of nations to refrain from using force or threat of force in mutual and general international relations.
The Ashgabat workshop was conducted by OSCE experts, as well as an expert from Kazakhstan.
Implementing actions to strengthen confidence and security is a priority OSCE activity.
"We welcome the growing interest of our host country in OSCE activities in this sphere and look forward to further strengthening our cooperation, including through Turkmenistan's accession to the communications network," OSCE Ashgabat head Arsim Zekoli said.
A CSBM official dealing with OSCE conflict prevention projects, Anton Martyniuk, said OSCE military and political commitments in Turkmenistan and the region as a whole must be ensured.
The two-day workshop included practical trainings on implementing the 1999 Vienna Document - in particular air base visits and inspections - and the OSCE communications network.
