Azerbaijan summarizes court practice on human trafficking

Azerbaijani Supreme Court has summarized court practice on human trafficking.

Consideration and summarizing court practice on criminal cases related to human trafficking in 2006-2007 was brought up for discussion at the Plenum of the Supreme Court on April 17. 

"Criminal offences related to human trafficking are culturally inappropriate and are consequences of transition period and globalization processes," it was noted during the Plenum.

Human trafficking related crimes increased 39.2 percent compared to 2007 and totaled 384. As many as 349 individuals were held accountable.

Human trafficking related crimes against women increased 60.8 percent and totaled 193. About 56.2 percent (196 individuals) of the committers were women.

Baku Supreme court chairman made a report on fair court investigation in 2009. The complaint by Agstafa court chairman against Law-Court Council decision was also examined.
