BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 31. The majority of surgeries financed by the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund have been carried out in private medical institutions, an audit conducted by the Chamber of Accounts on the activities of the Fund said, Trend reports.
“Despite full provision of medicines and medical supplies to healthcare facilities under the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TABIB), the majority of surgeries over a certain cost threshold, particularly those exceeding 5,000 manat ($2,941), were performed in private medical institutions. More than 90 percent of such high-cost operations were carried out in the private sector during both audited years,” the information notes.
TABIB is an Azerbaijani acronym for "The Management Union of Medical Territorial Units" (Təbib in Azerbaijani). It's a public legal entity established by the President of Azerbaijan in 2018 to manage medical institutions related to compulsory medical insurance and to organize the delivery of medical services to the population. In essence, TABIB oversees and manages the public healthcare system in Azerbaijan.
