Azerbaijan lifted a ban on importing animals and animal products from Mexico, Latin America and Europe. The ban was put in place last April to safeguard the country from the swine flu, Anti-Plague Station Deputy Director Rakif Abdullayev said today.
"The ban on animals and animal products imports, including pork, was put in place when the WHO announced the sixth-level infectious threat of the A/H1N1 virus," he added.
WHO experts later released a conclusion about the virus' ability to transmit from animals to human beings.
Meanwhile, Veterinary Service Spokesman Yolchu Khanveli confirmed reports on lifting the imports ban on animals and animal products.
According to the WHO, 6,260 people have died due to the swine flu in 209 countries worldwide. Azerbaijan has reported 14 swine flu cases. Thirteen people have fully recovered.
