The Government Trade Corporation of Iran (GTC) purchased 8.2 million tons of wheat worth about 209 trillion rials (about $4.96 billion) from farmers in guaranteed in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), the deputy director of the GTC, Hassan Hannan said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
Hannan said that the money of wheat purchased from 506 farmers in 31 provinces of Iran has been paid in full. The average price of 1 kg of purchased wheat was 25,300 rials (about $0.6).
The official added that the farmers delivered their wheat to 1,100 wheat purchasing centers within 2.48 million trips.
“The Government Trade Corporation of Iran is ready to guarantee the purchase of wheat from farmers in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), and the purchase of wheat from the southern provinces of Iran will begin as of April 4, 2021,” he said.
Reportedly, the price of 1 kg of wheat will be 40,000 rials (about $0.95) in the current Iranian year, and 1,100 centers are to be set up in Iran for purchasing wheat.
