The iron ore pellets production of the Sangan Iron Ore Complex (SIOC) in the Razavi Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran) will reach 2.6 million tons in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), head of the Sangan Iron Ore Complex, Hassan Jafari said, Trend reports citing Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).
Jafari stressed that the main aim is to supply fuel to Iran's local steelmaking and steel melting plants.
“In addition, the volume of iron ore extracted from the mines will reach 17 million tons,” he added.
Reportedly, iron ore is the raw material of steel. A number of plans are being implemented in Iran's Razavi Khorasan Province to increase steel production by 10 million tons a year.
Current data on enterprises operating in the province:
11 enterprises on the production of iron ore concentrate with the annual capacity of 22.2 million tons,
10 enterprises on the production of iron ore pellets with the annual capacity of 25.4 million tons,
10 enterprises on the production of sponge iron with the annual capacity of 9.4 million tons,
9 enterprises on the production of steel ingots with the annual capacity of 7.72 million tons,
6 enterprises on the production of steel rolling with the annual capacity of 3.7 million tons.
There are 7 mines in Sangan Iron Ore Complex.
