Iran's copper cathode production capacity has increased to 512,000 tons annually with the launch of a copper cathode plant in Kerman Province (south-eastern Iran), Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Alireza Razm Hosseini said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
He made the remark during an event dedicated to the launch of several facilities in Kerman Province.
The minister noted that the launch of this plant will reduce the cost of cathode copper production by about 38 percent.
Reportedly, the plant, which is located in Shahr-e Babak city of Kerman Province, will produce 50,000 tons of copper cathode a year by bacterial leaching method.
Razm Hosseini added that Iran exported cathode copper worth $730 million over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
“New facilities have been launched or the foundation of facilities have been laid in Iran at a cost of about 2.15 quadrillion rials (about $51.2 billion) since the beginning of last Iranian year to July 8,” he said.
