ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 7. Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency Almassadam Satkaliyev met with Professor Joep Konings, Dean of Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business, and Professor David Robinson from Duke University to discuss cooperation on training personnel and developing academic programs for the country’s upcoming nuclear power plant project, Trend reports via the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Special attention was given to the development of national human resource potential in light of the strategic plans to build a nuclear power plant in the country.
“Human capital development is an integral part of the sustainable and safe implementation of nuclear technologies in Kazakhstan. I am confident that cooperation with leading academic institutions will contribute to the formation of a new generation of specialists capable of ensuring the efficient and safe operation of future nuclear power plants,” Satkaliyev noted.
The nuclear power plant is planned to be constructed by 2035–2036 in the village of Ulken, Almaty Region, on the shore of Lake Balkhash. The estimated cost of the first nuclear power plant, with a capacity of 2.4 GW, to be built in the village of Ulken in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty Region on the shore of Lake Balkhash, is expected to be at least $14 billion.
