Wind power projects will require $1 billion, Georgian Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister Marika Valishvili told Trend on Friday.

Georgia now developed a number of investment projects on construction of wind farms on which 300-500 megawatts of commercially attractive electricity will be produced in the future.

In the future we plan to announce tenders for these projects and submit them to investors for the construction.

"The construction on our calculations, can be started by the end of 2013," Valishvili said.

At the same time the main source of alternative energy for Georgia will remain hydropower.

"Hydropower will be a priority for us, then wind power, and then we will focus on market requirements, and will develop other types of energy," Valishvili said.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Georgia, 90 percent of the electricity produced in Georgia, is produced by hydropower. In addition, the construction of 15 new hydroelectric power plants began, Valishvili said.

Georgia plans to become one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of "green energy" (clean energy) for Europe by developing projects in alternative energy, Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Baramidze said during the 15th Eurasian Economic Summit in Istanbul.

Today, Georgia with Azerbaijan and Turkey is implementing Energy Bridge project. The project must address existing problems with the transmission capacity and provide the output of electricity from Azerbaijan and Georgia to Turkey and further to the European market.

Electricity production in Georgia amounts to 9 billion kilowatt / hour.

"Last year, during an using capacities by 88 per cent holding produced about 2.9 million tons of petrochemical products," said Ozturk.

Earlier, on March 30 Socar Turkey Enerji A.Ş and SOCAR International DMCC OGG acquired a10.32-percent stake in Petkim, increasing its share to 61.32 percent. 38.67 percent are in free circulation in the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

Petkim Petrokimya Holding manufactures plastic packaging, fabric, PVC, detergents, being the only Turkish producer of such products, a quarter of which is exported.
