Azerbaijani operating company Salyan Oil, which is developing the Kursangi and Garabagli onshore oil fields in the country, produced 415 tons of oil per day as of Feb.20, 2019, a source in the country’s oil and gas market told Trend.
“Oil was produced from 242 wells. A total of 20,750 tons of oil has been produced from the mentioned fields from January 2019 to Feb.20, 2019,” said the source.
The source pointed out that the implementation of the pilot project by using Chinese technology at three wells in the area starting from May will allow to increase the output volume.
This technology is about injecting hot air into the reservoirs, which will allow to raise the oil recovery ratio and resume production at exhausted and old wells.
Earlier, it was reported that if this pilot project brings positive results, this technology will be used not only at Kursangi and Garabagli fields, but also in other projects of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.
Salyan Oil produced 155,000 tons of oil from Kursangi and Garabagli fields in 2018, as compared to 162,000 tons in 2017.
The fields are located in Azerbaijan’s Salyan district, around 150 kilometers from Baku. Some experts believe that the remaining reserves on the contract area exceed 150 million tons.
The contract for development of Kursangi and Garabagli fields was signed in 1998 for a period of 25 years. The shareholders of Salyan Oil are Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and China National Oil & Gas Exploration and Development.
