Cargo transit to Afghanistan via Iran’s Dogharoon border terminal surges

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 7. Cargo transit through Iran’s Dogharoon border terminal in Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) to Afghanistan rose by 35 percent, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, head of the terminal Esmaeil Pourabed said, Trend reports.

Pourabed noted that approximately 471,000 tons of cargo were transited to Afghanistan via the mentioned border terminal in 9 months.

He added that goods were transported by 21,368 trucks.

In total, around 11.1 million tons of cargo were transited via the roads and railways of the country within 9 months, representing a 37-percent growth from the same period last Iranian year.

Currently, there are 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways in operation in Iran.

The length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. At present, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons are in operation on Iran's railways.
