Assets of Kyrgyzstan's banking sector increase

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 8. The total assets of Kyrgyzstan's banking sector reached 621.2 billion soms ($6.946 billion) as of January 31, 2024, which is a 1.1 percent increase compared to the beginning of the year, Trend reports.

The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan disclosed that the banking system accumulated a net profit of 2.265 billion soms ($25.327 million) as of January 31, 2024, since the start of the year.

Client credit portfolios within the banking sector amounted to 256.9 billion soms ($2.872 billion), representing a decrease of 0.3 percent compared to the beginning of 2024.

Within the banking system's credit portfolio, classified loans accounted for 9.5 percent, equivalent to 24.5 billion soms ($273.957 million), compared to 9.2 percent, or 23.8 billion soms ($266.129 million), at the end of 2023. The volume of overdue loans reached 6.6 billion soms ($73.8 million), accounting for 2.6 percent of the banking system's credit portfolio, marking a 2.9 percent increase since the beginning of the year.

The total deposit base of banking sector clients remained unchanged at 431.3 billion soms ($4.822 billion) compared to the beginning of the year.

As of January 31, 2024, there were 23 commercial banks and 319 branches of commercial banks operating within the territory of Kyrgyzstan.
