DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 27. Electricity production by two units of Tajikistan’s Rogun hydropower plant reached 602.7 million kWh from January through June 2024, Trend reports.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, the figure declined by 37.5 percent, or 361 million kWh, compared to the same period last year.
Overall, electricity production in the country for the first half of 2024, including output from small hydroelectric plants, totaled 10.3669 billion kWh. This is a decrease of 393.4 million kWh, or 3.7 percent, from the same period last year.
The Rogun HPP, a 3,600-MW hydroelectric power station currently under construction on the Vakhsh River, plans to install six units, each with a capacity of 600 MW. Two units are currently operational, with the third expected to be fully commissioned by 2025. The Rogun HPP is expected to generate over 17 billion kWh annually upon full construction and have a dam with a height of 335 meters.
