DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, January 14. An iron processing and production plant will be constructed in the Ghafurov district of the Sughd region in Tajikistan, Trend reports.

The regional administration announced that the plant will create up to 1,000 jobs for local residents. Geological surveys have already been completed, and construction of the facility has begun.

Officials noted that the region is rich in mineral resources, with several active mines, including the Shokadambulak iron mine, one of the largest deposits in the area. This mine holds reserves of up to 48 million tons of raw material.

The plant is projected to process up to 1 million tons of raw material annually, with the finished products expected to make up 42-45 percent of the total raw material processed.

The equipment and infrastructure for the plant will be imported from China, with installation and assembly carried out by Chinese specialists.

The facility is being built as part of preparations for the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan's independence in 2026 and in line with the country’s fourth strategic goal—accelerated industrialization.

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of independence, over 12,000 projects are planned in the Sughd region, including the construction of hundreds of new enterprises.
